Not every Black person is African-American. Other countries do exist, and Black people come from a lot of them. You may have heard of a continent called “Africa,” which contains many countries that, in turn, contain many Black people. In fact, it’s the origin of half of that term you keep misusing. There are also Black people in England, France, Cuba, and many other places, all over the world. Those people are not “African-American.”

out of curiosity and asking as a non-american, why do you even call black Americans ‘african-american’? They’ve been living in America for so long that the distinction is useless, isn’t it? Like calling someone “English-American” just because their great-grandfather traveled from England. Is is that that ‘black’ carries with it memories of slavery and oppression like the ‘N’ word? That makes sense, but I’ve heard people refer casually to each other as black and white and nobody took offense.
Because America is racist as fuck, basically, and a lot of conservatives don’t consider non-white people to be “real” Americans. There are occasions when a white person is especially proud of their ancestry or the media wants to make a connection that their family ancestry will get mentioned, too, but for the most part,
white people are just called “Americans,” while everybody else gets hyphenated.
